Jewelry Care
Swift Modern pieces are designed to be worn often — but like anything beautiful, they’ll last longest with a little intention. Below is the easiest way to keep your jewelry looking crisp, polished, and luxe.
The golden rule: Put jewelry on last. Take it off first.
(Lotion, perfume, hairspray, SPF, and cleaning products are the fastest way to dull finishes and cloud shine.)
Care by material
Gold-plated sterling silver / brass / stainless steel
Gold plating is a surface finish — treat it gently and it will stay luminous longer.
Do:
- Wipe with a soft, dry microfiber cloth after wearing
- Store in a dry pouch or jewelry box (separate pieces to prevent scratching)
- Keep away from water when possible
Avoid:
- Showering, swimming, hot tubs, saunas
- Sweat-heavy workouts while wearing plated pieces
- Perfume, hairspray, self-tanner, sunscreen directly on jewelry
- Jewelry dips, ultrasonic cleaners, polishing cloths meant for solid gold (too abrasive)
Quick tip: If you wear one piece daily, rotate it. Plating lasts longer when it gets a break.
Pearls:
Pearls are naturally delicate and porous — they prefer a gentle life.
Do:
- Wipe pearls with a soft damp cloth after wear (then dry)
- Store pearls separately from metal and gemstones to prevent scratching
Avoid:
- Perfume, hair products, acids (including vinegar-based cleaners)
- Soaking pearls in water
- Leaving pearls in direct sunlight or very dry heat for long periods
Pearl rule: Pearls should be the last thing on and the first thing off.
Gemstones (varied hardness)
Some stones are tough; others are more delicate than they look. Treat all gemstones with care unless you’re sure of the hardness.
Do:
- Clean with lukewarm water + a tiny drop of gentle soap
- Use a soft toothbrush only on hard stones (if needed), gently
- Dry thoroughly before storing
Avoid:
- Ultrasonic cleaners (can crack/loosen stones)
- Harsh chemicals (bleach, alcohol-based cleaners, acetone)
- Dropping jewelry on hard surfaces
Clay + resin + ceramic resin
These materials are durable for everyday wear, but they don’t love heat, pressure, or solvents.
Do:
- Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth
- Store flat or in a pouch so pieces don’t rub or bend
- Handle by the metal parts when removing (not by the clay/resin)
Avoid:
- Leaving jewelry in a hot car, direct sun, or near heaters
- Alcohol/acetone cleaners, nail polish remover, strong household cleaners
- Bending, twisting, or stacking heavy pieces on top
Storage
For best longevity:
- Store pieces dry, separate, and not tangled
- Keep in a pouch or box away from humidity (bathroom storage is the villain)
- For travel: pack jewelry in individual pouches or a compartment case
When in doubt: keep it dry
Water + chemicals + friction are the top three causes of:
- plating fade
- tarnish
- clouded resin shine
- weakened adhesives
